Sometimes extended health plans don’t include Registered Dietitian or Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) services, even though these supports can make a meaningful difference for families. When coverage is limited or denied, it creates unnecessary barriers to getting timely, evidence-based care.
To help make the process easier, I’ve created customizable letters you can use to advocate for yourself or your family. If you have private insurance, simply download the letter that fits your needs, fill in the name of your benefits provider, and upload it through your plan’s portal for review. Consider sending it to the Human Resources department of your employer, too!
If you don’t have insurance and are paying out of pocket, you can also use these letters to contact your local Provincial Representative (MLA, MPP, or equivalent). Sharing your experience directly with decision-makers helps raise awareness and contributes to improving access to these essential services for all families.
Everyone deserves the support they need to thrive - and your voice can help move that forward.
